Indoor Rowing Competition - Report from Mr Pritchard

Last Friday, the Year 5 and 6 Indoor Rowing team went to Stratford Park Leisure Centre for the 9th inter school competition. There is always great excitement at this event with lots of cheering. Everyone really gave their best effort and enjoyed the morning. Thank you to Mr Pritchard and his family for organising the competition.

Well done to Longney! Despite being one of the smallest schools at the event, you managed a respectable 4th place out of the 8 teams. Those two third places in the year 5 and year 6 boys relays were very close – I thought you might have won a gold in one of the races for a good proportion of the race! 11 of your team of 16 managed new personal bests including huge improvements from Amelia, Rose, Jacob, Will, Sophie, Lexi (despite her injury during the term) and Lola.

Some statistics for you –

This is the 9th year of the event (should have been 10 but for Covid in 2021)
This year I have trained 343 year 5 and 6 pupils from 8 different schools
The event this year was attended by 124 children from 7 schools.
This was a very competitive year – 90 of the 124 children (72.5%) beat their personal bests and the number of year 6 children exceeding 450m in 2 minutes doubled to 6 from 3 last year!
