Our Values and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

Our Living Values underpin everything we do at Longney CE Primary. Our pupils can talk about the Values and how they help them in their daily life. Each value has a bible story that the children explore when each value is in focus. In our Celebration Worship on Friday, we give our Value awards for pupils who have been seen to be demonstrating behaviours that can be linked with these values.

We have four core values that were chosen by our pupils. These are: Respect, Courage, Perseverance and Friendship

Our other values sit alongside and include:
Generosity, Thankfulness, Hope, Love, Trust, Forgiveness, Compassion, Service, Truthfulness and Joy.
Our pupils enjoy creating art work to help them explore the values and the biblical stories that we use to help their understanding.

SMSC:  Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Development

Across our website you will see photos and read about how we encourage and support our pupils to have a broad range of experiences both withing the curriculum and through extra-curricular opportunities. We believe in educating the whole child to ensure our pupils leave Longney as confident students with a love and curiosity of learning and the world around them.

Spiritual development: children explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world; use imagination and creativity; reflect.

Moral development: children learn to recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views.

Social development: children investigate moral issues; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict; engage with the 'British values' of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance.

Cultural development: children learn to appreciate cultural influences; appreciate the role of Britain's parliamentary system; participate in culture opportunities; understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.
