SMSC: Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Development
Across our website you will see photos and read about how we encourage and support our pupils to have a broad range of experiences both withing the curriculum and through extra-curricular opportunities. We believe in educating the whole child to ensure our pupils leave Longney as confident students with a love and curiosity of learning and the world around them.
Spiritual development: children explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world; use imagination and creativity; reflect.
Moral development: children learn to recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views.
Social development: children investigate moral issues; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict; engage with the 'British values' of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance.
Cultural development: children learn to appreciate cultural influences; appreciate the role of Britain's parliamentary system; participate in culture opportunities; understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.
