Our Vision and Values

Our academy is a voluntary controlled Church of England academy, part of the Diocese of Gloucester Academy Trust. Longney CofE Primary Academy was originally founded in 1853 and began in the church of St Laurence, opposite our school, before our main building was constructed.  We continue to have strong links with the church today.

Our Vision

'Building Community, Enriching Lives'

At Longney, we aspire to build a nurturing and inclusive learning community which inspires trust and welcomes diversity, enriching the lives of all our children.

Our whole school community works together in unity to ensure our work reflects the passage of 1 Corinthians 12: 12-26. ‘Just as a body, though one, has many parts’, as a school, we recognise that all members of our community have an important role to play.  Our school practice embraces the diversity of our community and as unique individuals, we celebrate and support one another in our differences. ‘If one part suffers, every part suffers with it. If one part is honoured, every part shares in its joy.’

As a school community, we support each other to live 'Life in all its fullness' (John 10:10) in line with our Trust Vision and that of the Church of England.

Our Christian Values

Our Christian Values, which allow us to live out this vision, are at the centre of everything we do at Longney CofE Primary Academy. Children are given opportunities throughout the year to reflect on what each value means to them. This is done explicitly through our Collective Worship time, but also throughout our curriculum. We celebrate these values in action each Friday, in our Celebration Worship, where we acknowledge children who have demonstrated these values.

We are lucky to be visited by our local reverend from St Laurence, who regularly leads our worship to help us to reinforce our understanding of each value by sharing stories from the Bible.

Our Distinctively Christian Values are...

Respect

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you (Matthew 7:12)

Friendship

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

(1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Courage

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1 9:11)

Perseverance

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. (Romans 5 3:4)
